Inspired by the flutes of the Upper Volta (Burkina Faso) Africa, the flute was owned and used by community elders. They were used to announce special events such as initiation rights.  The elegant proportions represent an abstract human form reaching to connect with the power of creativity.     

These figures, cast in bonze, originated from the Giriyama sub-tribal group. The Giriyama people, an agricultural society, live on the east coast of Kenya..

 

Before the new years planting, the village elders carve these figures in wood. Imbued with wisdom and power to protect thier newlt planted crops. The tribal name of these figures is VIGANGO
