Indonesia - Timor door
Indonesia, Timor door. This is an exceptionally fine piece with great patina. Collected in 1978 in Indonesia. Timor doors of this quality were used in ceremonial adhat houses that contain important community relics as well as ceremonial seeds used in the upcoming rice planting. Most old Timor doors are in a bird design, the buffalo design is very unusual, symbolizing power and fertility. The band directly below the horns depict human forms in mirror image. 19th c.
