Nepal, Middle Hills
Middle Hills area of Nepal is located north of the Mahabharat Range reaching an altitude of about 2,000 m (6,500 ft). The tribal people are Hindus of the Bahun (priestly brahmin) and Chhetri (warriors and rulers) castes who speak Nepali as their first language. Higher where it becomes too cold to grow rice, populations are largely Magar, Gurung, Tamang, Rai or Limbu, the hill tribes from which the British recruited Gurkha.
