Naga
Naga Ivory bracelets pair circa 1900. This pair ivory armlet from Nagaland was collected in 1990. Body adornments and jewellery were important markers of social identity. Most ornaments were not freely available for everyone to wear, but were restricted to particular groups. Amongst the Ao Naga, men had different rights, some inherited and some earned, to wear various numbers of ivory armlets. It's unusual to have a pair. (some information from: Pitt River Museum)
